Collect from me after ex's BK?

What is the name of your state? IL

Divorced in 1999. I paid the debts assigned to me in divorce decree; ex apparently more than doubled his debts and declared bankruptcy in 2002. Collection agency found me in 2004 and wants me to pay. Debt was an unsecured loan sold to several collection agencies before someone noticed my name on the original note.

Is there a SOL in Illinois? If I don't pay and let them continue to report negatively to the bureaus, when will negative information drop from my credit report? (7 years? from time of original debt, last payment, his BK or from time they started reporting to the bureaus?). Thanks for any help!
