After she died two large outstanding debts were being pursued by collection agents. They are addressed to her. Am I obligated to pay these? Brian |

Spouse's debtsYou are only obligated to pay to the extent of your deceased wife's assets. In other words, you can only inherit what's left after the debts are paid. If the assets are insufficient, then the creditor is stuck.

Deceased wife's medical billsI sent a death certificate with the bill to one collection agency and they sent me the bill again with no explanation (addressed to her). If I tell them I am not paying this will they go back to the original creditor or provider such as the hospital and see if I signed something that said I am obligated? I had the insurance and they payed their part. |
