Collecting debt... need to find that person!!

(Boston, MA)
Hello guys, let me keep this short as possible.

Used to live with someone, friendship dissolved over one year.
I paid the entire security deposit myself. I moved out 2 weeks before my roommate because I found a new place so I trusted she would move out with NO problem.

Problem: Just got the security deposit back, I was charged for carpet burn and furniture removal and cleaning. Turns out she left her couch, mattress, dresser and carpet burn was in her room.

Apartment management took pictures and emailed me. I think I don't need anymore proof in regards to her being the culprit.... but I don't have her number, only have an OLD email that she doesn't use, and that's it. No forwarding address was left to the apartment office either.

I want to take this to small claims court but how I do reach someone like this? I remember in the tv shows where some random person will go to a place of work... and "serve" that person. I'm more than willing to find a professional service and pay to get help. I'm just lost in ideas.

Thanks in advance for listening and helping me find a resolution!

serving in small claims cases

In small claims cases the "service" is typically done by the clerk of the court by certified mail. You do have to provide a current address for the defendant. Call up the small claims clerk and ask them:
(1) what is the upper limit that you can claim in Small Claims in Massachusetts?
(2) does the Clerk do the service of process?

If they do, then just track her down by knowing her old hangouts and chums to get a new address, and go file your claim. Should cost you about $30 all told.

You still may not prevail in Court, of course. that is all up to the Judge.

Even if you get a judgment, that does not mean you will ever see any cash. Roughly 95% of all small claims judgments end up unpaid. Such is life.
