Collection Agencies Tactics

What is the name of your state? Texas and California
My son who who lives in California has a dental bill that was turned over to a collection agency. I live in TX

The only written notice from the agency he has received regarding his account was a partial letter dated May 31 addressed to my name at his address in California. The CA attempted to make me the responsible party from the beginning. The harrassing phone calls started coming on June 2,
On June 10th, they changed the rules on him and demanded immediate payment.

The CA is in violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act by initiating contact with me and discussing my son's case with me and I have reported them to the FTC and CA Attorney General's office.
Based on my complaints, they verbally notified my son that all arrangements were off and that they would see him in court.

My question, since the only written notification was an incomplete letter incorrectly addressed to me as if I was the responsible party has the CA legally notified him of the status of his account? It would seem that he has not.

How did they get your information? Were you listed as the responsible party to pay the bill?

If he has not paid the bill then it is still due.

I provided a credit card to make a down payment only. And that was how it was indicated on the paperwork

The CA actually called me to inform me that my son was committing fraud, because I did that. But I was never listed as the responsible party for the remaining balance. They just decided that I was. They knew then and they know now I did not sign any papers indicating that I was responsible.
