Collection agency/age of debtWhat is the name of your state? Georgia How old must a debt be, before a collection agency can have it put on your credit report? Is it 180 days? This is what my credit report says: Date reported: 9/2005 Date Assigned: 7/2005 Original Amt Owed: $330 (this is false, I only owed $75, it was due in May 2005 and I never received the bill for it) Date of 1st delinquency: 4/2005 (debt was invoiced in April, due in May) Balance Date: 9/2005 |

| There is no minimum age. The maximum age is 7 years after chargeoff for reporting a negative item. The only other requirement is that the facts must be reported accurately. You say the original amount reported is inaccurate. You can dispute the item on that basis. You can read about disputes at the credit repair section on www.creditinfocenter.com. |

2. When you don't pay a bill, most contracts allow for interest and late charges. 3. Your contract could require you to pay collection costs. DC
