Collection Agency serving judgement summons to random business in area on my behalf

What is the name of your state? Virginia

I currently have a debt collection group that is trying to serve me with a garnishment summons. They have already served me at my home (understandable), but they are going the extra mile and trying to attempt to serve me at my place of employment as well. The thing is that they are trying to serve me at my part time employer (which is a national chain). They are not trying to go to the corporate office, instead, they are trying to serve the actual location I work. They do not know the exact location, so they tried to serve the closest location to my address. The summons has instructions to serve "Corporate Designee or Managing Employee"

My question is, is there anything I can do to stop this behavior on their part? Or do I have no choice but to let them send this summons to every chain manager at every location in the area? It seems like this type of activity would be slanderous as well as illegal. The fact that they have already served me at my address should be enough. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Why do you think that their actions are slanderous or illegal?

sounds like they are using more than one process server. You could call them and offer to come and pick up the other summons. Or inform them that you have already been served and they may call off the other server. Other than that, as senior said, nothing that they are doing is illegal or slanderous, although it may well be quite embarassing.

Well there really is no slander, but I have already recieved two summonses as is. This collection agency is very shady to the extent that they will just keep dragging u through the mud until they get their money. It's not that I have no intention to pay but trying to make things difficult for me is not going to get them paid any sooner. Can't squeeze blood from a turnip. Take a number and stand in in line with everybody else.

1. They aren't trying to make things difficult for you. They don't care about you. They are just trying to get paid. AND Yes it will get them paid sooner.

2. You sure can squeeze blood from a turnip -- it just depends on how hard you squeeze.

Not really....they are the last creditor I have, so their efforts went for not. I dont care anymore, bills are almost paid. They wouldn't get that much from garnishment anyhow.

Then you are the kind of deadbeat that forces them to use every legal means of collecting on their judgment.

There is really no need for slanderous comments. My bills get paid, but do not have the resources to hand out large sums of money on demand. When I am able to pay I will. Simple as that.

It IS true....Why does everybody get on here and try to pass judgement? There's always a couple of idiots that get on here and make dumbass comments thinking they can hide behind the comfort of a computer. Sounds to me like people really have nothing else better to do.

But for the record, you know absolutely nothing about me nor the reason as to why I was initially unable to pay...it's really none of your business.

I've done the math - You have $8,000 outstanding. You have not paid it. That makes you (by definition) a deadbeat. I commend you for trying to rectify your situation, but let's call it what it is

As for knowing you or your situation...never said I did, nor do I care to.
