Collection call out of the blue.

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Ohio

Hello all, I just got a phone call from a collection agency for a credit card I hadn't used in years. In fact its been sitting in a lockbox. It's an Amex card and they claim it was used to purchase some floral items. This is news to me. What are my options? TIA for your responses.

Was te purchase of flowers from a time that you were using the card? Is there any possibility that the charges are valid?

If not, contact Amex directly from the telephone numbers on your statement. Tell them that you want to report fraudulent use of your card and ask them what the proper procedures are.

Thanks for the response. There is no way this is a valid charge. The card has been out of use for several years. I've since moved and don't even receive statements from Amex. I'm concerned that I can't claim an unauthorized charge since so much time has passed, and it's been referred to a collection agency. Thanks again.

Then call AMEX asap. You have a card with fraudulent charges and the credit card company has no way to contact you. How do you know that somebody isn't charging more than just flowers on your account?

By ignoring this situation, you are just making it worse.
