Collection Company

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Texas
Per our conversation, I am sending you a copy of the last statement or
correspondence that I ever received from Emergency Care USA. If you notice
the date on this is July 30, 2007. I paid it on August 27, 2007, with the
same credit card? Which should have been the balance, of $200.00. At the
bottom of the statement, it shows that they received a payment from me, on
July 27, 2007, in the amount of $501.00. No one ever contacted me, that I
still owed any money. Until I received this letter yesterday, a year later?
Emergency Care USA, is 3 blocks from my house? Why didn't they send me any
additional documentation? As far as I knew this was paid in full, a year
ago? I am very confused by all of this, as well as very upset. I do
apologize for taking this out on you. I pay what I owe, when I know I owe
something.
I'm waiting to here from you, before I proceed, on my end?

Below is response
YOUR BALANCE IS $200.00 AS WE SPEAK, UNTIL YOU SHOW ME YOU PAID THE 200.00 PER EMERGENCY CARE THEY NEVER RAN THE 200.00 BECAUSE YOU WERE SURPOSE TO CALL THEM BACK AND YOU DIDNT SO NOW ON TOP OF THE 200.00 OWED. YOU OWE A 35% COLLECT FEE. YOUR TOTAL IS $ 270.00 TO BE PAID TO ME. CALL ME BACK
What do I need to do, as I thought this already paid a year ago, adn this is the first I heard of anything, in a year. The letter said I owed $948.35. They didn't even show that I paid anything, let alone that I owe anything?

Burden of proof

Since I never received any notice that I owed anything. I thought it was paid off.

The collection company said this:

Was I supposed to make sure that they ran this on my credit card a year ago. This happened in 2007, almost a year to the day. Why do I need to prove this? I received nothing other than a letter from the collection company, that said I paid nothing, and owed over $948.00 dollars.

**A: why don't you need to prove it?

I don't have any problem proving anything. I haven't been shown anything from this company. Don't they need to prove that I owe it. So anyone can take a year or more without sending anything, and say a person owes something, and that is legal? They didn't have any information that I had paid anything. I gave them that.
