What is the name of your state? TN I was wondering if anyone can tell me if someone trying to collect on a bill can tell just anyone who they are and why they are calling? I am talking about the original collector, not a third party collection agency. Someone called my parents house yesterday, looking for me, and proceeded to inform them who they were and very specifically why they were calling. Are they not bound by the privacy act the same as everyone else? I intend to pay this as I was not aware it was due until the phone call, but was wondering about the ethics involved. Thanks

OCs are not bound by the FDCPA, so yes, they can tell your parents who they are and that they are trying to collect on a debt.
