| Collector chaning amount owed What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NC
About a year ago, my fiance got very sick and was unable to work and thus unable to pay his credit card bills. He was out of work for about 6 months and has ben paying all his debts since he started working again. a few weeks ago, the county sheriff left a note on our door saying my fiance was being sued for a debt. This company had never contacted him like the other companies had. He contacted the company and they sent a letter stating the amount owed and where to send the money. He got a money order to pay the amount in full 3 days later and mailed it to the collection agency's lawyers. They called him today and stated that they were retuning the money order because they had added court costs and daily interest. Are they able to do this? If they had contacted him they would have gotten their money without a lawyer, and how is he supposed to know how much interest is building up while the next check is in the mail? |
