If you get a second, ask someone in your office....if you board a horse for someone and in a year, they have not paid any money towards care or food. Do you legally own horse. This was verbal contract as was friend to friend. Will not respond to phone calls or letters sent. Now has moved, so can't send certified letter as whereabouts unknown. Can the horse be sold to get some if the money back?

"If you get a second, ask someone in your office..." What does this mean? To whom is this instruction addressed? What office?

Yes.

But you will have to comply with this Alabama statute to do it properly.

Here is a link to the lost or unclaimed property laws of Alabama: http://law.justia.com/codes/alabama/2009/Title35/Chapter12/Chapter12.html

You can click on section 35-12-6, Disposition of unclaimed articles left for service (which could apply to the question you ask - I am not sure it applies to horses being boarded, but will check):

Neither of those apply.

The one I posted (35-11-70) is specific to horses for which boarding fees have not been paid.
