credit card collections

What is the name of your state? Oregon

An old credit card debt took us to court and we didn't have the money after rent and utilities were paid and they took all our bill money out of my husbands bank account and caused the account to go about 500 dollars negative. This caused our rent check to bounce and now we still owe them, our landlord and the bank. Is this legal? I can understand taking our money, but to put us further into a situation that we cannot get out of?

A. Yes, unfortunately. It is called a bank account levy. If you still owe money, they can levy the account again or garnish wages and other nasty things.

I'm not lecturing -- this is for the benefit of others who may be in your situation -- this is a perfect example of why one should not ignore judgments. They always get you when you least expect and when the timing is the worst.
