credit card company taking legal action

I live in Georgia. I have about 5,000 dollars in credit card debt that i have not paid on in about a year. I initially made attempts to work with the bank on payments, but couldn't keep up with the payments. i have since lost contact with the bank. They have sent threatening letters about hiring an attorney. I understand that the debt will ruin my credit for years, but other than that, can they take any other legal action for a 5,000 debt?

yes, they can and probably will sue.
