(4) years ago we were going through some difficult financial times and had to sell our house quickly to avoid bankruptcy. GMAC had a lien on our home due to a prior judgement in Jefferson County. We signed power of attorney over to the party purchasing our home to settle the lien so they could close the pruchase and transfer the deed.
Since then we have been working on repairing our credit and taking care of the bad debt. GMAC remained on our credit, but we assumed this was a mistake. When they were contacted, we have been told that the purchasing party of our home negotiated a settlement and had the lien released, but we are responsible for any remaing balance. We never received any documentation supporting this, and now that we've contacted GMAC, they are calling and pursuing us aggressively.
We contacted our credit reporting agency took them off my credit with a letter of explanation, but it has reappeared on my Wife's credit.
We have worked hard to clean up our credit and would like to purchase a home, but this item is making this difficult.
