Debt collection

What is the name of your state? North Carolina.

I had a debt charged off my account in 1996 when I was in California.
At the time the debt was about $2,000. It is now 2004. I have paid over 4,000, but because of interest they say I still owe them 2,300. If this debt is no longer on my credit report would it hurt me and any way if I no longer make payments?

Nope, it would not, it can NOT go back on your reports once it has dropped off.

However, now you have to wait out the SOL all over again - 3 years in NC.
