Debt Collection

State: Tennessee

I was in the hospital recently and racked up a ton of bills. I have always heard as long as you make payments on a bill, it can't be turned over to a collection agency. Apparently, it's NOT true since I've had several turned over even though I have been making monthly payments. Anyway, I just wanted to check and make sure.

I only had $54 left on one when they gave it to a collection agency!!

Unfortunately, this is the standard when it comes to medical bills as of late.
There's nothing you can do as it is legal for them to do so.

What you can do though, is work out a pay for delete with the collection agency. Once you pay in full, have them delete their entry on your credit report. You must do all of this in writing.
