Debt Collection

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NY

I give $19000 to a friend in August 2008 and he promised to return it back with in a month.Since then he has not returned me the money despite my repeated requests. I don't have any proof except a copy of the bank check and my bank statement, which shows the transfer of the money from my account to his bank account.

How can I get my money back? Is the bank transaction a sufficient proof to support my claim?

I will appreciate any good suggestion

Without addressing the question of why you would loan out a huge sum of money with no written agreement on the return of said money...

You would need to sue your friend. This (unfortunately for you) is way beyond the limits of small claims court.

Luckily, it still falls in the Civil Court limits, and they have a special "pro se Part" where it's basically a glorified Small Claims court.
