Debt collection for deceased father

My father passed away in December, 2006. He was living with a "partner". Apparently he had a credit card, which is still currently being paid by the partner. I am now getting calls from a collection agency with offers of a settlement. I informed them that there was no estate and they told me that they see a current mortgage on his credit report and they can attach a lien to this property. I do not know for sure if there in fact is a mortgage, I do plan to find out. My question is this, if there is a mortgage with the partner with my father's name on it, can they put a lien on the property for this credit card debt???? I would like some input before I contact the agency again. Thanks for any help.

A creditor can put a lien on any asset owned by a debtor once the creditor has a judgment against that debtor.
