Debt collection of relation lived at my address long time back.

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NY My son since last many years is not in my contact, debt collectors although informed about this kept on sending letters which I returned back promptly, now a summon from court has been slipped at my door. what can I do now to stop this.

Send a cease and desist letter to the creditor CRR&R informing them that the missing relative is NOT at this address or reachable on your telephone number.

In addition to the above, give the creditors your son's contact info, let him deal with his own debt issues. Also give your son the summons to he can take care of it.

I'm not sure you get it.

Your SON is being sued. YOU don't have any bearing on the case.

Debt collection for relation

Thanks xylene,
How do I contact the court to convey my son no longer live at this address and also not in my contact since almost 2 years. The court summon was served at my address ( addressed in my son's name). What is my liability in this case.

None.

If you know sons address, forward his mail there. Inform the post office not to deliver son's mail and of his address (may not work)

Drop a line to the court of son's address.

Or do nothing and continue to "return to sender" correspondence sent to your son to your address.

You have no liability for son's debt, even if he lived with you. *note*

Note - this assumes you son's debts were incurred when he was an adult, and that you did not agree as a cosigner or co-borrower to be responsible for them.
