Debt collector refusing payment offer

My sister has had a debt collector calling her at work even after they were informed by me-her boss-that they are not allowed to call her. They called again today & she called them back & tried to arrange to send them $10 a week until she could afford more (debt is only $280) and they refused. They tokd her it wasn't a substantial amount to pay it off in a timely manner. How can they refuse a payment no matter how much it is? Is this right? can they refuse a payment?

The creditor has the right to refuse the offer. If the debt is in default, the creditor has the right to demand payment in full immediately.

If you want to stop the calls at work, the request must be in writing. Your sister must send a letter telling the creditor that her employer does not allow personal calls at work. Send it certified mail return receipt requested.

That's the way it works.
