Question

Debt to Gas Company (Meter Check Pending)

PA

I am a customer or Dominion People's Gas Company. I don't know what forum would be most appropriate for this question, so I chose this one.

I am still paying off a large debt to the gas company from last winter. Their estimates were way off, and I ended up with a bill of over $1500 for one month. I had a full review of my usage, which didn't change anything. I then had them replace the meter and check the old meter off sit to ensure that it was reading correctly. The check was only supposed to take 30 days. It has now been over two months and they have not completed the meter check yet. My question is, does the gas company only have a certain number of days to complete a check in the same way that the credit report bureaus only have 30 days to resolve a dispute?

Not that it is, but to me it sounds like the gas company is sitting on their hands.

I am unsure how to answer your question, but what I do know is that you should really consider getting your state Attorney General involved.

Maybe they can help prod the power company into doing the right thing. An AG cannot and will not act as your attorney, but they do protect consumers. Once you explain your side of things, the AG should respond by sending a general inquirey letter to the offending company outlining your complaint and ask why they haven't moved to correct the problem.

Good luck and maybe someone else will pipe in!

EDIT: Left a word out...corrected to ensure my response reads as intended.
