Debt sold to collection company

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? My State is Michigan.
I filed bankruptcy a few years ago.
There was only one creditor not included when I filed. This company I was able to pay my debt off to gradually over the last few years, they had agreed to this and I had signed a guarantee and was still making payments, when recently they were bought out by a larger company.
The new owners would not continue with the former payment agreement and have sold the debt to a collection agency, who have offered a settlement figure I cannot possibly pay and will not offer a payment plan.
I am very worried. Is this normal for a collection agency not to offer any form of payment plan and demand settlement like this?

Yep. Very common.

How do you KNOW that they are the new owner and not just an agent for the original one??
Have you continued to send payments to the 'previous' owner?? Did they return the payments?

Why has he spent over $1.35M in legal fees to block disclosure... rather than spend $12 for a VALID birth cert to settle the matter? The 'certificate' he has presented doesn't qualify to get a drivers license, wouldn't allow a child to qualify for Little League, or for a real citizen to get a US passport!

What exactly do you mean when you say this creditor was not included in your bankruptcy ?? ALL debts MUST be included in bankruptcy, there is no picking and choosing. Did you reaffirm this debt, or did you just purposely neglect to list this creditor ??

In most districts, in a no-asset Ch 7, ALL debts are considered discharged, whether they're listed or not.
