default judgment insurance subrogation

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Utah

I'm am submitting this hoping to get some advise that can really help me.

Back in 2001 ( I was 16 at the time) Iwas in a car acident where I rear ended a trailer I a trucking company. This was a very small farming and welding business. Happened in Evanston wyoming where I had live at the time. Turns out I had no insurance because my mother whom I was paying for insurance never actually insured my vehicle. She just took my money and put it towards god knows what. I was severly injured in this acident but being the cop found be at fault regardless if how terrible she weather I had no arguement. Anyways the owner of the company at the time said not to worry about it and they would just pay for the damages to their truck. Of coarse I didn't get this in writing cause I was too young to understand it's importance. So the company filed it through their insurance company. This was unknown to me for several years in the mean time I had moved I salt lake city Utah. About februay of 2006 I got a letter in the mail at my moms house for a default judgement hearing. I Had no idea what it was about. So I drove up to Evanston for this hearing. Come to find out the insurance company was subrogating me for the losses hey took plus interest and attorney fees this cost went from 3500.00 to over 10,000.00. And it was too late for me to fight this since supposedly I had been properly served. After the hearing which wasn't really a hearing judge basically said too late you had your chance. So I went to get all the paper work they said hey had signed certified mail for this hearings turns out the signatures were from my little brother who was about 15 atthe time an tv letters disappeared. I didn't even live at my mothers and hat as where they were sending them not to mention I thought certified mail had to be signed by someone over the age of 18. So after everything I petty much got screwed by my family. Come July 2007 my mom gets a letterthat her license has been suspended because I the judgement. The attorney filed 2 completly separate judgments against me and my mother for he exact same debt. She is trying to collect double the debt with these separate judgements. In the mean time to avoid my license being suspended I set up payment arrangements to the attorney for 100.00 a month till I could get this figures out. My mother on the other hand refuses to make any arrangements and just suffers without a license.

My question is. Being that I was a minor at the time and it was my mothers responsibilty to pay my insurance why was I targeted to collect from? Second at is she trying to collect double debt shouldn't this be illegal? What about utah? Would hey allow her to suspend my license for a judgment? If it was filed out of state? And I just bought a house could she put a lien on my house? Does Utah allow this? I don have 9000.00 to settle this debt let alone even half of that. What are some good ways I could negotiate this individual judgment? At this point it sounds like the debt has been completly sold to the attorney. And I've paid her over 1200.00 already but with a 10% interet rate I'll be paying g his for the next ten years.

Any and all advise is good thanks.
