Default Student LoanWhat is the name of your state? DE My wife's company just got notified to garnish her wages to pay back a default Student Loan from 1989. It took them 15 years to find her, and she feels remembering paying it back. We got her credit reports and their is no listing of student loans being on their nor anything in default/collections. It defaulted for $3838 in 89' and now 15 years later they want $8800. now why did it take them 15 years to find her, when she was working since 90' and paying taxes, and I did state that in my memo to them, also stated here location and jobs held and length of service at each job. They won't send me proof that she even owes the money, and I don't know what to do. Any help in this situation would be greatly appreciated ![]() Jonathan |

| "It took them 15 years to find her" There is no SOL, so, they can wait as long as they want before they collect... Watch your tax returns this year, they may decide to take that as well. "We got her credit reports and their is no listing of student loans being on their nor anything in default/collections." Just because it isn't on a credit report doesn't mean it isn't owed/doesn't exist. In addition, the reporting periods for default student loans has been extended, so I would'nt be surprised if showed up on her reports sometime soon... "They won't send me proof that she even owes the money, and I don't know what to do." Why would they send you proof? Your wife needs to take care of this herself. |
