On disability and had a threat made that bank may sue over long standing student loan

Not sure if I could be helped here. I am from Ontario, Canada. I am on disability and just received a call that the bank may sue me over a student loan that I took out over 10 years ago. I have just enough money to get by every month. What could happen to me???

The call wasn't directly from the bank, but some agency calling on their behalf. They said before I could get (possibly) sued that they want to work something out with me. The thing is, I am on limited income. I could get a bit of help, but certainly couldn't pay a large part of it. The debt is $20, 000 Canadian.

Last time I checked, Canada is NOT the 51st state of the United States of America.

US law only.
