Disabled and still being harassed after 8 years!

Hello,

I am a disabled person with a very limited income per month. I cannot afford to file bankruptcy therefore I am being harassed for repayment of debts that go back as far as 8 years! They keep calling me as I have a listed phone number (can't afford unlisted). My questions: Can they keep harassing me even though I have told them I cannot under any circumstances pay them? Is there anything I can legally do (on my own) to stop them from repeatedly calling me? Any other suggestions as what I can do?

I'd suggest you go visit [url]www.creditinfocenter.com[/url] and learn about debt validation (DV). Basically, you send these jerks a DV letter including the sentence "...all further contact should be in writing..." and they'll stop calling. If you learn to play the game right, they may wind up paying you.

It won't make the debt go away, and they sue you, but it sounds like you're pretty much judgement proof.
