Disabled w/old defaulted Student loansWhat is the name of your state? Arizona I became disabled as an older student that returned to college, as a result of my disability could no longer attend, or work and defaulted on my student loans. That was approximately 11 years ago. I am still on Soc. Dis. and live below the poverty level with no assets. As a result of dealing with a collections agency trying to collect on a debt that is past SOL, I decided to check my credt history and was surprised to see my credit in good standing. I know that most of my negative impute has been erased because of time, but it was my understanding that defaulted Student Loans never left your credit history unless it was paid off. Does anyone have any information about this part of Student Loan defaults? Also, has anyone ever tried negotiating a defaulted loan on a balance this old with similar surcumstances? |

| Why are you asking all these questions? Do you intend to pay off your student loans or not? |

| Being in the same circumstances myself, I was recently informed, but the Dept. Of Ed. reps, that they stay on your credit report only as long as anything else, that would be 7 and a half years from the date of default. They don't ever stop trying to collect, unless you get a disability discharge, but they can't leave them on there any longer than the term allowed by law for all debts.
