What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? SOUTH CAROLINA

i am new here today... my mother has a debt in a collection, agency, we found this out yesterday... this was about an alarm system that was put in her home... long story short**************. she did sign an aggrement to have this system for 3 years,,,,,, well, after my dad passed away, and she was very ill.. i talked to the vice president of the company, and he waived the bill...... this was about a year ago,,, well, we cant find the paper we wrote the info down on.. so,, they continued to send bills,, now it has gone to this agency.. a woman called my mom yesterday,,,,was very very rude... i called her back, and she also jumped all over me,, i talked to her supervisor,, he also jumped all over me... i worked in collections about 15 years ago,, i know the laws....they where yelling at me,,,,,then the supervisor said DONT YOU EVEN SAY TO ME THAT YOUR MOM IS BRITISH AND DIDNT UNDERSTAND THE CONTRACT,, OR THAT SHE IS ELDERLY AND DIDNT KNOW WHAT SHE WAS SIGNING..... instant slander.... how did he know she was british or elderly,, unless that woman told him.... my mother is a very intelligent woman.. she knew what she was signing.... anyway,, this guy was all over me,, ended up,, me being all upset and yelling back at him,, as he was attacking me..he wanted a credit card # or a check written right then..... i saw a collector act like that one time,,she was immediatly removed from her seat, and fired.... they are not allowed to yell and scream at you,,,slander!!!!! i told them never to call my mom again,, to call me,, i gave them my name and number....i told him that i knew the laws of collection.....this bill went from $175 to over $800... the collector told mom that,, it was interest built up.... you would think mom would have had these bills all along..... anyway,, i am very upset over all of this.. when your mom,, at 75,, calls you crying, to tend to react.... thank you for letting me vent,,,, cloe

Cloe, you are confusing harrassment with slander. Slander is if they broadcast something to the public that is not true, and it causes damages such as loss of job, money etc. What is happening between your family and the CA is not slander. It does sound like harrassment though.

What I suggest is writing a letter to them to cease all telephone communications and only contact you by mail. Send the letter to them CRRR mail. Go to the link below for a sample letter.

I thought alleging British ancestry was defamation.

Well, anyway:

Standard answer on expired SOL and/or validation and/or dispute letters. There are thousands of posts similar to yours on this forum so I have prepared a standard answer.

SOL
http://www.bcsalliance.com/y_debt_sol.html

http://www.fair-debt-collection.com/Disputing_Collections/SoL-dispute-letter.html

Validation letter samples you can get at :

and www.creditboards.com

Disputes: You can write a letter of dispute to the three credit reporting agencies.

Go this website to find instructions and samples for how to dispute: http://www.creditinfocenter.com/creditreports/

Sometimes errors are easy to remove and sometimes they stick like glue. It is inexpensive to try and not difficult.

I am NOT a creditor-debtor lawyer; stand by for further help.

I am NOT vouching for the accuracy of these websites!
