Employer Closed Without Paying My WagesWhat is the name of your state? Ohio Hello, I worked for a small, local business for a number of years on a part-time, freelance, independent contractor basis, usually a few hours per week. The company had been struggling financially for the past couple years. However, one day it just shut its doors without any notice, and without paying me the $1200 it owed me for my services. (Actually, the company did try to pay me earlier with two checks that bounced. The company said it would make good on the checks, but instead just closed its doors. I still have the bounced checks as proof of non-payment.) I know where the business owners live, and made numerous attempts to contact them. (I've documented these attempts.) However, they have ignored all my attempts. I was willing to be reasonable with them, and to work out a payment system for this debt, spread out over months if need be. But, they have chosen just to ignore me. I've heard from other sources that the company may be filing for bankruptcy. I don't know if it would be personal or business bankruptcy. I have contacted the bankruptcy court in my area several times, but they apparently haven't filed yet, although the company went out of business over two months ago. I've tried to educate myself on the bankruptcy process, as well as the process of going through small claims court. At this point, even if the company does file for bankruptcy, I'm not 100% certain that I will be named on the creditor list. So, I'm really not sure what is the best way to proceed here. And, actually, the more I read, the more confused I'm getting. Any sharp minds out there that could give me some direction? Thank you in advance for any direction you could give me!!What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? |

| Don't throw good money after bad. I wouldn't invest too much time or money into this issue. You will be last in line during the bankruptcy. It sucks. But you got screwed this time. DC
