employer promissory note

What is the name of your state? Indiana

When I was hired by my former employer he told me he requires a one year contract to be signed. I was hired and was not given a contract to sign until after i was trained. I signed it. (dumb) It stated that if I left before one year I would have to pay $6000 for my training. (the training cost much less than that, maybe $3000) Well 5 months in I got a job offer I couldnt refuse and left. He said I was to pay him 500$ over the next 12 months to cover the note and if I did not pay I was responsible for his costs (court, attorney, etc) to get the money out of me.
If I dont pay him would this contract hold up in my state of Indiana? Can I dispute the amount since there is no way my training cost 6K?

Thanks,
Lesson Learned

While there may be other employment-law related reasons why this contract might or might not be enforceable, the reason quoted above is NOT a valid reason to dispute. You agreed to pay $6,000 for training costs. It really doesn't matter if the training cost $29.99 - you agreed to pay $6,000.

Your right I did, but is the contract as a whole enforcable? I understand it would not be in many states

There's nothing in your post to indicate that it would not be a valid contract. Is there some reason you're interested in not keeping your word?
