What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Virginia

My current wife's ex-husband has defaulted on an unsecured debt and they are contacting my wife with notice of a pending court action to include levy. This is the first time we have beeen notified of this debt. The debt was on a small line of credit from twenty years ago that was not accessed till after the divorce. They have been divorced for nearly 6 years. She never accessed the money or authorized any of the debt. He does not work and is in the process of filling for bankruptcy. Are we now responsible for the money he racked up years after her divorce and subsequent re-marriage?

Was her name in anyway tied to the original application for the line of credit? If the answer is yes, she can be held liable for the debt.
