Basically the repo company can do ANYTHING LEGAL to get the car back... They can come at all times and try to get the car from you... They cannot break down a garage door to get the car, but they can wait outside forever if they want...

Tell your father-in-law to give the car up... he won't be able to hold onto it forever... Repo men ALWAYS get the car back... Eventually they can take him to court for it and tack on attorney fees, etc....

Repoman is a "cult classic".

The movie is a little over the top but likely supports what the other poster said they WILL get the car back. It is a code of honor thing. If you have a twisted sense of humor try the movie.

Park it and Leave it for 6 months

Tell your Dad to park the vehicle far away and don't go to it for 6 months or more. Have someone else go and start it occassionally. I had a friend do this, except he went to Mexico, and the creditors eventually wrote it off.

Be VERY careful if you plan to go this way... If you tell the repo men that you don't know where the car is, they can file a stolen vehicle report for you as the car is not legally yours until after the lein has been taken off the title... So even if you wanted to registered the car down the road, good luck!
