FCRA Questions

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Alabama

Second attempt, lol, so I'll be brief.

I obtained a copy of all three credit bureau reports from free credit report dot com. Some of the accounts listed on those reports I believe to be false, others simply past the SoL for reporting. HOW can I get these accounts removed (just the ones that are wrong, not asking how to remove accurate info).

I wrote letters to 12 companies, using the addresses listed in the credit reports, and sent them certified (return receipt requested).

Some were Returned to Sender as incorrect addresses (verified the addresses after receiving the return mail, against the report). I plan to dispute these right off the bat.

One company said I didn't send enough info to locate my acct. I gave them my name, address, and SSN. I did not have acct #s, as these are not included in my copy of the credit report. SURELY they can look it up by SSN!

Others simply have not replied at all.

Am I on the right track, so far?

Thanks in advance for any and all insights!

James

Location: I don't know. The guys with the keys won't say. I think it's top secret info.

write the CRA and dispue the info. The CRA is responsible for confirming the info when disputed. If they cannot confirm, they have to delete.

I disputed a few accounts already, without sending the letters. The only thing that happened was the CRA contacted the collection companies, and the collection companies replied to them with the same info as before.

Case in point:
Collection agency purchased an account. The ORIGINAL debt is no longer valid to be reported, due to it's advanced age. However, the collection company is reporting the date of last activity as of the date they PURCHASED the acct. As I understand, the date to look at for determining the 7 year restriction on reporting is the date of 1st delinquency, or date of last payment. Which pre-dates the purchase by the collection agency by far.

Thanks for your reply, justalayman, I do appreciate any info I can get.
