Financial Aid FraudWhat is the name of your state?VA During a security clearance check, I found out that I have student loans in my name from 97. Two problems.. First, the financial aide officer said my education was funded with federal grants that did not require repayment. Second, the original loan holder said that the papers were processed before I was even 18. (Started college at 17). How does this happen? The account since has been sold to another company and the account has moved into collections. That company swears they have promissory letters with my signature, yet they still have not faxed them as requested. How should I handle this? |

| Send them a debt validation letter, Certified Mail, Return Receipt Requested, they don't have to honor anything you request over the phone or by fax. Demand they send you copies of the papers with your signature. You can find great sample letters to use at www.creditboards.com

I am sending them verification request, but in mean time I am only alotted a couple of weeks to clear this up before my security clearance is revoked. I contacted base legal on the matter and they said I was not even obligated to pay even if it was my signature on those documents because I was only 17 when they were processed. Another lawyer told me that if it really is my signature, I would have to pay... Who is right? ![]() |
