Fingerhut Bill Trying to CollectWhat is the name of your state? Virginia For the last seven years, a debt collection company harrassed me with letters and phone calls saying I owed $400 for a debt owed to Fingerhut. There was no paper evidence offered that this debt is valid. I received an average of four harassing phone calls per day from an automated phone system of CompuCredit. If I answered, the computer would put a bill collector on the phone and they would ask for my name. They even had my name wrong on the paperwork. I told them more than six times, that this person is not me, and they have the wrong person, with the same name, but that I never had such an account with Fingerhut. Each time they said they would erase my name from their records, but then after that the harassment would always continue. Has anyone had a similar experience? |

If you are 100% sure the debt is not yours, why not send them a Cease and Desist letter? Send the letter CMRR (Certified Mail Return Receipt) so that you get a confirmation of delivery (little green card) for your records. Indicate in your letter that all previous attempts to correct their records and inform them it's a case of mistaken identity (you never had an account with them) have gone ignored and this letter is your demand that they Cease and Desist all communication with you in regards to the matter. IF the debt is yours, and it really is that old, you do have rights and options. Lets us know. Good luck and I hope they stop the abuse! TiredOfAbuse |

| It appears you are not alone . http://www.ripoffreport.com/searchresults.asp?q5=Fingerhut&q1=ALL&q4=&q6=&q3=&q2=&q7=&searchtype=0&submit2=Search%21&Search=Sear ch Fingerhut and collection attempts are relentless . My suggestion is to write a letter receipt confirmation , keeping a copy and the receipt of when they signed for a received it , requesting a cease and desist , and a threat to sue under the FDCPA . Familiarize yourself with the FDCPA . Either on line or contact the FTC to send a copy to you . At the least the collector should give you the account # , and verify the account . If you have to sue , or make a complaint with nearest Attorney General's office of consumer affairs .
