Garnishment

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? ca

Hi, my sister got a car loan here in Ca my grandmother cosigned for her but she resides in Ny.. I think at the time the car loan people thought she lived in ca this was the suggestion of the people at the car dealer. Now my sister has had the car repossesed and we were wondering if t hey could garnish my grandmother who's legal residence is in Ny? She is also on social security and a small pension and I know they can not be garnished but the pension can be once the funds are in the bank? I do not think they can touch her since she lives and has always lived in ny but want a little more info, thank yoiu Renee

They would have to file a lawsuit and receive a judgement against her first.
