What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Michigan
I have a question in regards to the total percentage that can be taken by the Federal Government from my SS benefits. Is it a total of 15% combined for any Government Agency? The IRS has just levied 15% and Dept of Justice has just levied another 15%. The IRS took their 15% from the total benefits and then the Dept Justice has just taken another 15% based on total benefits. Can they each take 15%? and if so, shouldn't have the second levy from the Dept of Justice 15% been calculated on the amount after the first levy of the IRS? Doesn't seem right that they both calculated the 15% on the total benefits. I was under the impression that Government Agency fell under one umbrella for the 15% garnishment.
Thank You,
DanaW (Michigan)
