Garnishment of Wages

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? South Carolina

Is it legal for a hospital to garnish my wages. I got a call from a lawyer today, and this is the first I have ever heard about this bill. She said they were going to garnish my wages 27% from each paycheck if I do not pay my hospital bill. This bill is from 7 months ago. My insurance covered everything but a $100 deductable so I do not understand how this lawyer is now saying I still owe after my insurance payed a total of almost $400. Any information on this would be great.

There can be no wage garnishment without a judgement.
