Garnishments from Hell! What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Colorado Hi- When I was employed in Colorado in 11/2008, I discovered that a former landlord justifiably garnished my wages (once, from my last paycheck). (Since then I quit my job and plan to start a new one soon.) Unfortunately I owe numerous entities money. Worse, I owe over $30,000 in student loans; these need to be paid first. I have two questions: 1. Is there a cap at which my wages can be garnished? 2. Is there some way for me to contact my student loan creditors and basically set up a garnishment plan (I defaulted on them) so that ANY monies deducted from my paychecks goes to them- and supercedes or preferably, eliminates any monies being deducted by other creditors. Financially, I've probably ruined my life (I'm 46). But I do need to make sure that the student loans get repaid. (And obviously, they continue to compound themselves with interest...) Thank you so much... |

| Depends what you mean by 'cap'. If cap means 'how much can they get?', the answer is the full amount of the judgment, plus costs, plus interest until paid. If cap means 'how much per paycheck?', the answer is up to 25% of your wages. Quote:

Why has he spent over $1.35M in legal fees to block disclosure... rather than spend $12 for a VALID birth cert to settle the matter? The 'certificate' he has presented doesn't qualify to get a drivers license, wouldn't allow a child to qualify for Little League, or for a real citizen to get a US passport! |
