Go to court house?

What is the name of your state? CA.
I was summoned to appear for a case regarding a debt for 2k. If I dont have the money to pay and I know I owe...what is the point of showing at all? I should stay at work and make a few $$ instead of standing there for a half day right?

NO ! You should GO to your court date. NEVER blow off a court date. Even if you can't pay a lump sum, the court appearance is likely your LAST chance to negotiate a settlement or payment arrangement.

You're in CA, how OLD is this debt .. when did you last pay the original creditor directly ? The SOL in CA is short, if the last time you made a payment was more than 4 years ago, you have a valid defense for getting the case thrown out entirely. If you don't go to court, you automatically LOSE - garnishments and bank account seizures are next.

Can they PROVE this debt is absolutely yours ? Have you even ASKED them to prove it ?? They may not be able to .. and if you don't go, you'll give them a win for no effort. The bulk of all default judgments happen because people like you just don't show up when showing up to challenge them might actually give YOU the win.
