What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? FL

I thank you for your help with a stressful situation,

Hello, I'm not sure what catagory. Briefly, my car was stolen on July 25th overnight, and reported to Coral Springs,FL police that morning.

For a week, I called and called, but no response was given as to the where abouts. Then in two weeks i received a letter stating that my car was impounded by the CS police department 2 days after I reported it.

When I called the impound they said it was "undrivable" and it was not shown as stolen so I owed $400, plus storage everyday. I had to buy a used car to move to NY where I'm attending school, It was supposed to be auctioned a week ago.

Perhaps I should have just gotten it and sold parts, but I just had too much going on and I didn't feel I should be responsible. Plus, they will probably do the same and make a profit. I sent them a letter and I have not heard from them, but of course I am going to be responsible for a lot of money that I shouldn't be. I know I've probably handled it wrong, but I can't change the past. This is what I'm up against. What do you think I should do?

Thank You agin so much for your help.

Sue them in small claims court for the actual and direct dollar damages you suffered.

Have a copy of the police report for the judge and the defendant.

File with your auto insurance company. They will probably either give you cash or replace it, depending on the coverage you have. For the remaining amount you can sue the thief, if he/she has any assets.
