Was helping friend with collection, Help

What is the name of your state?
Georgia

I have a friend who has a $6000 collection. With his verbal consent I negotiated with the agency for $2000 since my friend cannot speak english. They said it has to be $3000 so that day we paid of other collections. The agency calls back 2 days later and says they will take my offer of $2000 which we do not have now. And now they are suing. I used my cellphone and now my friend denies giving me verbal consent. Not only that I keep getting calls from the collection agency to my cell asking for my friend. Will I be in trouble? Even though its not my collection will they be after me?

What would they be after you for? You were just an interpreter. If they continue to call you explain that and tell them to take it up with 'your friend'.

Well....He denies now that he gave me rights to interpretation. Lost a good friendship cause of this.

But after he gets sued and judgements come...wouldn't the lawyers try to get my cellphone account and pull up an address, social, etc. Not only that we have the same last name and the agency thinks I am related.

They can try but it doesn't change the fact, it is not your loan, it's not your responsibility. If they call, explain you haven't talked to that person in months and don't know how to reach them. They can't do anything more to you than that.
