What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? Arkansas
I live in Arkansas and I took care of my chronically ill mother for several years
until she died last Nov. in 2003. After her death, I started looking for a job.
The only job that I could find is a part-time, minimum-wage job since I had
been out of the work force for so long and do not have a college degree. I
make about $1000 a month less than the amount that my mother had been
drawing that we both had been barely making it on. We were living in a
fairly nice 3-bedroom house that my dad paid off in 1995, one year before he
died unexpectedly from a heart attack. I knew that I could not afford to pay
all the monthly house bills and also buy food and medicine for myself, so I
was really glad that my boyfriend of 6 years invited me to move in with him
after my mom died. I packed up some of my things, and just left the house
sitting there. Recently, my aunt and uncle from Texas, (the only family I have
left) offered to put up some of their own money to get my house fixed up so
that I can sell it. (The house has been in a state of disrepair ever since my
dad died.) I really appreciate my aunt & uncle helping me, but I do have some
concerns. My mother was in the hospital for 2 weeks before she died, and had
a lot of bills, and I never was sure if Medicare and her insurance paid all of the
bills. Also, I have had several medical problems myself the last few years, and
some of my bills got turned over to various collection agencies because I did
not have the money at the time to pay them in full (and I still don't). My
question for the Forum is this: Is there a website on the Internet where I can
find out if there is a lien on my house? If no such website exists, is there a
discrete way to find out if there are any liens on my house and how much
they are? I certainly hope that there are no liens on my house, because the
money that I get from selling my house is all that I have unless I can find a
much better paying job.
Sincerely,

Try this link: http://www.crimetime.com. On the top of the page click the link that says "Free Searches". Scroll down to your state and see if the information you are seeking is on-line. I've found this to be very helpful when seeking public information. Hopefully it will work for you too.

All you have to do is call the courthouse or whatever office in your county handles deeds and ask if any liens have been recorded against it. No one can place a lien w/o suing you first and getting a judgment. If you haven't been sued, then the likelihood of a lien is slim. Calling and asking won't stir up any trouble, they're just civil servants.
