I am owed $6000, how to collect?

What is the name of your state? NY.
I live in NY state. I have a legal judgement from NY against someone who has since moved to North Carolina. I had gone to court and obtained the judgement about 3 years ago. I have so far only collected about $100. What are my options to collect the rest of the money? Can I garnish wages? This person has just recently started working as a policeman in Durham, NC. Prior to this did not have a steady job.

You have several options.

First, you have to domesticate the NY judgment to NC to be able to do anything to collect.
Once you do that, then you have options to enforce collection of the debt. You can levy his bank account(s) and sieze non-exempt assets. In order to FIND these assets, you can have him served with interrogatories or drag him into court for a debtor's exam to reveal all sources of income and assets. If he blows off either, he will be in contempt of court - not a good thing for a new cop.

No, not in NC.
