I just turned 18, debt misinfo? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? WI My grandma bought me a cell phone when I was 17 and sent it back before the contract was up so she had to pay a fee. Somehow they got my name and have been sending me letters since a year and a half ago. It can't be my debt obviously because when we were on the phone with the cell phone company they said I couldn't have the phone under my name because I wasn't 18 yet. What should I do? I'm afraid she might do something crazy like say I took her credit card or something. My dad did something similar, he signed me up for auto insurance and then didn't pay the payments after a few months and now I am getting the bills. I need any advice I can get to get this off my record because I tried applying to student loans and this shows up as delinquent. |

| That's because your post makes no sense. Your grandmother got you a cell phone. She sent it back and paid a cancellation fee, right? If so, why are the cell phone companies calling you?

Did YOU (nablial) receive the benefits (e.g. you used the cell phone and benefited from the insurance)? If so, you should have been paying. If these people put things in your name for their benefit and to get out of paying, then it's a crime and you need to file a police report to send to the creditors. |

I'm not sure they put it in my name for their benefit, they just didn't want to follow through on things they got for me. Also, I got the insurance bill in the mail but it said "To the parents of 'john doe'" so i didn't open it or do anything with it. Thank you for your replies thus far, and again, sorry for the confusion. |
