I had an MBNA debt from 1999, the debt was finally sent to a collection agency and a month ago I was contacted by Harrison Ross Byck to pay my account. I didnt come to any terms with them back then but they called back 2 days ago. They were requiring me to make a large initial payment (2400) to start paying off my debt, but there was no way I could come up with the money. After talking with them for a while we arranged that I'd start paying 100 a month. I gave them my checking account info over the phone and set up payments for 4 months after which they said they'd contact me.
After I did all that, it struck me that I had just given my account information over the phone, something didnt feel right. So I went online and checked for information on that "Law Firm" and came upon the realization that they have a pretty ugly reputation for extortion. I indeed was pressured a lot into making payments. Also, I started reading everywhere to avoid them, not to talk to them, and most important of all, not give them account information

. Now that I realize all that's gone through, I find that i've messed up. From what I've done, is there anything I can do to protect myself from paying 8000 dollars (they're charging interest) on a 1,500 dollar debt from 1999?
