I moved from Michigan to Florida old Credit Card Debt

What is the name of your state? Florida
How does a move from one state to another affect the SOL on a credit card debt? The account is 8 years old. I moved from Michigan to Flordia. Haven't heard anything on debt in forever I actually had forgotten about it. Last week I recieved a letter in the mail from Merchants' Credit Guide Co. That I owed twice as much as the value of the card. Then I recieve a phone call on my answering machine from some Ken Hughs. I check my credit report and there is nothing on there. As a matter of fact. I have an open account with Equifax and have in the last six months been cleaning things up and have never seen any thing reguarding this account. Then all of a sudden, I am receiveing this crazy letter and phone call from someone about this account. How do I go about making all of this go away?
Please Help!

The laws of the state you are sued in will apply.

Do a search on this forum for Merchants Credit Guide. There is one very huge thread all about these scammers.

When did you move from MI to FL ?? How long after your last payment to the original creditor ?

If you moved DURING the allowed SOL in your old state (FL), the SOL 'clock' stops on your leaving. Simply, this means... the SOL in FL will not expire until you return to the state, the SOL clock will restart (where it stopped) until you have completed the full SOL period.

Florida Code:
95.051 When limitations tolled.--
(1) The running of the time under any statute of limitations except ss. 95.281, 95.35, and 95.36 is tolled by:
(a) Absence from the state of the person to be sued.

Very common. The interest continues to accrue until paid. And if it is like most credit card debt, the interest was accelerated on your breach. I am surprised that the balance has only doubled!!

You have two choices (assuming you left Florida within the SOL):
1) Pay the debt, or
2) Move back to Florida for the duration of the unspent SOL.

Why has he spent over $1.35M in legal fees to block disclosure... rather than spend $12 for a VALID birth cert to settle the matter? The 'certificate' he has presented doesn't qualify to get a drivers license, wouldn't allow a child to qualify for Little League, or for a real citizen to get a US passport!

Ok I,m getting it,

I moved from Michigan In 1999 the last notice was in 1997, I have lived in Florida 7 1/2 years all most 8. The SOL in FL on open debet is 4 years the time to sue ran out on this. After Looking into Merchants credit Guide Co. I found many people unhappy with the way they try to collect old debt they some how picked up. I have the money to pay it off or settle. I do not trust Merchants credit guide co. after reading adout them. I positive the original creditor has nothing adout me the debt is 10 years old or more? MCGC can not reage this debt or call me within 30 days after I recive witten notice or report outdated negative information. MCGC has called within 30 days they called the next of the notice MCGC dose not follow the fair credit reporting act to good at all.

Okay, lets try this again... in English.
1) What was the month and year of the last activity on the account (payment or charge)?
2) When (month and year) did you leave the original state (where the account was opened)??
3) Has a judgment been rendered against you on this debt??
