International debt

CA. So I incurred a credit card debt in another country on a credit card from that country and now I am getting calls from a collection agency over here (Chicago) threatening to take me to court. Can an international debt be transfered to the US? I have been living here for 5 years, and recently moved to CA and my credit card company never got any mail to me (wrong address supossedly)
