Irresponsible in the Past-Need Advice to Clear up Mess

I am focused to clear up my past record of neglected debts, but I have read to much information, I seem confused as to where to begin. I contacted one collector on an old account for $10!!!(I feel ashamed, but didn't care at the time) and I asked if they could delete the account when I send in the payment, which I would have put that on the check as a term for accepting a payment, and they said they could not do that, only update as "paid." Now I came across some more information, stating that a "paid collection" account is as negative as an "unpaid collection account?" Is this true, they cannot just delete the account if they accept the payment, with my terms writting on the check?

I am so sincere and focused to make good on my old debts, now that I have sought treatment and found out the reasons why I neglected my finances and responsibilities. I am not posting this information as an excuse, just a way to describe exactly how much I have changed towards responsibilities in general.

Also, If I am willing to pay the whole outstanding debt on a charge-off, is it likely to ask them to re-age the account, or does that only apply to accounts that have not been written off, just delinquent for a few months?

Can they delete the account: Yes. Will most agencies - NO. Pay it. Wait six months and dispute it with the CRAs.

A paid collection reports better than an unpaid collection.

Not really sure what you are asking here. Re-aging accounts, as I understand the term, is not legal.

This is certainly a refreshing post!

It only looks better to credit grantors, it absolutely does NOTHING to raise your scores ! A paid collection IS still a negative, marking it paid doesn't make it positive.

As to the part about writing terms on your check, that is not legal and binding. If you are going to try to work out and deals with CAs, get it in WRITING!
