Judgement Advice

What is the name of your state? ILLINOIS

I had a repossession that occured approx. 4 yrs ago. Shortly after ,the creditor sent me a letter stating that I owed approx $4,000 after they sold the car. Now the original creditor has sold the account and the new collection agency states that i owe approx 10,000. I have disputed the acct via the credit bureaus. I am now waiting for an answer. But this week, my sister called and said that they sent a summons to her house (U.S. mail, non certified) regarding a judgement for the amount and requesting that i come in. I want to know what should be my next steps because i would have to pay to respond. Should i try to call and resolve this or is it to late. Also, i want to know if the summons is legal because i no longer live at that address and if my sister had not opened the mail i would not have known about it. If i ignore it and proceed with the disputes what would be the result?

If you ignore it, you will lose and they get everything they ask for.

Yes, it is probably too late. When you disputed the debt with the credit bureaus, little red flags went off and they sued you.

Time to pony up and pay it.
